Description: The "Interpretation Manual of the European Union Habitats", Oct. 1999 defines Sandbanks which are slightly covered by sea water all the time as: "Sublittoral sandbanks, permantly submerged. Water depth is seldom more than 20m below Chart Datum. Non-vegetated sandbanks or sandbanks with vegetation belonging to the Zosteretum marinae and Cymodoceion nodosae."

The gallery gives examples of typical sandbanks in the Baltic Sea and the plants and animals associated with the habitat.
